Problem: When handling aggressive chemicals it is virtually impossible to prevent spillage of some kind. Whether these occurrences are caused by defective, or breakdown of, equipment accidental spillage or normal plant process it is vital to prevent pollution of the local environment. Of greater concern would be the pollution of an even wider area due to chemical contamination of ground water.
Belzona Solution: The wide variety of Belzona protective coatings are extremely versatile and are compatible with others in the product line, thus allowing the Belzona Technical Consultant to customize a solution to suit a particular problem or circumstance. The range allows for all eventualities from the need to simply seal a surface to providing medium-term chemical protection or even long-term chemical protection and impact resistance.
Problem: Although chemical resistant tiles are not affected by even the strongest of chemicals, they often fail to do their job because the grout between the tiles is not resistant to a particular chemical. Consequently the tile becomes disbonded and the chemicals then degrade the substrate and thus penetrate and pollute the ground beneath.
Belzona Solution: Belzona 4111 (Magma Quartz) can be mixed into a fluid-like consistency and used to grout tiled areas when chemicals are of average concentrations. For strong chemicals or where chemicals may be left for sometime Belzona 4311 (Magma CR1) will provide a grouting system which will provide a level of resistance to even highly concentrated chemicals.
JOINTS AND CRACKS
Rebuild damaged expansion joint edges.

Problem: Expansion joints usually fail by two separate modes. The joint edges crumble away due to impact from traffic and /or the sealant used within the joint dries and cracks, allowing water ingress which causes carbonation of the concrete around the joint.
Belzona Solution: A combination of Belzona 4000 Series Magma Polymers and Belzona’s 2000 Series Elastomers provide a long-term solution to both of these inherent problems, can have the area repaired in a fraction of the time that would be required for a conventional repair. Problem: Health and safety has become an extremely important part of our lives in recent years and there is no reason to believe that this will not continue. Personal and personnel safety is vital and hazardous work areas due to slippery surfaces will not be tolerated now or in the future. Many conventional solutions like non-skid tapes have been found to be inferior due to premature wear out, loss of bond to the substrate or the fact that they can not be cleaned without sustaining some level of damage.

Problem: The internal structures contained within a storage tank or process vessel are subject to attack by both erosive and corrosive forces. If this attack was allowed to proceed unchecked then the ultimate result would be the collapse of the tank.

Problem: Sealing tank seams and penetrations can be difficult with conventional systems due to the fact that a number of different substrates can be involved. Because each of these substrates has a different rate of expansion and contraction this can cause conventional systems to lose adhesion.

LININGS
Repair/renew damaged coatings.
Problem: Many storage tanks and vessels need to have all of their internal surfaces protected from corrosion or chemical attack - depending upon the nature of the liquid being stored - by the application of a barrier coating. Unfortunately the standard barrier coatings normally used will either only provide protection from specific liquids stored under specific conditions or more often sustain damaged during service and prematurely fail.
Belzona Solution: Belzona’s unique product range is the most versatile of any currently available. They can be used to repair small areas of damage sustained by existing linings or can be used to completely renew and or replace the existing lining. They have excellent wide ranging chemical resistance and cover a working temperature range of -30 up to 185 degrees Centigrade.
INSULATION AND ENERGY CONSERVATION

Problem: When water penetrates and becomes trapped within insulation, under insulation corrosion can occur. On carbon steel the result is rust and on stainless steel stress corrosion cracking, a far more serious problem, can occur. In addition to these costly problems there is also an excessive loss of energy which in itself becomes a substantial, yet unnecessary, cost for any company.
Belzona Solution: Belzona’s waterproofing system for insulation protects against weather and mechanical damage, yet allows internal moisture to evaporate out through the membrane, thus keeping the insulation dry and therefore protecting the metal below.
EXTERNAL STRUCTURES AND SUPPORTS

Provide electrical insulation between tank and support.
Problem: When water becomes trapped between the saddle support and the pipe or vessel the inevitable result is corrosion of the outer surface of the pipe/vessel. This form of corrosion is usually called crevice corrosion and can be extremely severe.
Belzona Solution: Belzona products can be utilized to completely eliminate this problem since they are electrically neutral, possess high load bearing capability and, since they contain no volatile solvents, do not shrink on cure.
Secure loose anchor bolts. Problem: Machinery anchor bolts become loose over time due to vibration, shock loading and chemical attack. This can lead to further problems, especially with pump and motor sets, such as damage to seals, shafts, couplings and bearings.
Belzona Solution: Using simple techniques, Belzona products can be used to either grout new anchor bolts or stabilize existing anchor bolts.
